FTA Bench Warrants

When someone experiencing homelessness ends up in jail, cash bail often prevents the person from purchasing their freedom. And under a new, 2023 Georgia law, cash bail is required for everyone who has had an FTA ("failure to appear") bench warrant for any criminal charge in the past five years. For most people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta, FTA warrants are a regular occurrence and the common sense result when hearing notices are snail-mailed out to individuals whose police-written citations read "homeless" or "no address."
